The Dolphins will look to build on a successful past couple of months of football, but will have to get past the powerful Patriots to do so. The Dolphins come into the game with a 5-9 record, but have won 5 of their last 7 games after starting off the year 0 for 7. Meanwhile, the Patriots will be on their home turf at Gillette Stadium. They have been their usual selves on offense, but have had a shaky defense, at best, this season. Regardless, they are 11-3 on the season and are trying to secure homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. From a historical standpoint, though, Miami has upset the Pats on more then one occasion.
The Dolphins recent success has been in many ways a credit to quarterback Matt Moore. Moore has shown that he may be the guy for Miami and has limited mistakes lately while getting the ball in the endzone. Reggie Bush has also come on string and seems to be settling in to South Beach. He had a couple huge runs last week, which reminded many of his days running at USC. The offense should not struggle too badly against the Patriots, but things will come down to how the Defense stops Brady and the high-powered Pats offense.
The Patriots Offense scores in many ways, which is what is most frustrating to NFL defenses. Wes Welker fits in the smallest of spaces to get first downs and keep drives alive. He is remarkable especially given his small stature. To make up for what Welker is lacking in size is Patriot tight end Rob Gronkowski. Gronk is a massive target and does not drop balls. His size makes him virtually uncoverable as he towers over most all DBs. Trying to limit the offense possessions will be key if Miami wants to escape with a win.
