Marlins Keep Pace in Division

The Marlins outscored the Nationals 5-3 in a nice divisional match up on Wednesday. The game was played in Miami in their new ballpark and featured two teams in the hunt for first in the NL East division. In the end, the Marlins were able to string together more hits and surpass the Nats to get their 29th win of the season. The win improved their home record to a very respectable 16-10 mark. The team has seen some good success in their new home and hopes to take that further into the season.

The Marlins got 11 hits in all during the contest. One of these hits was a homerun by the Marlins’ Stanton who continues to show great power for the team and now has 13 homeruns on the year. The team got off to a good start getting a run across the plate in the first. Washington quickly tied the game in the second and took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning though. Miami responded with 2 more of their own in the fourth, however, and scored a run in each the 5th and 7th innings to get the win. Johnson got credit for the Marlins win and is now 3-3 this season. Bell came in to close things out for the team, which gave him his 10th save of the season.

The nationals are now 29-21 on the season with a 14-13 record on the road. The Nationals losing pitcher was Wang who is now 1-1 on the year. The team is still in the hunt in a very tight division race as the entire NL East is just games apart. It should be a good division for teams to follow as the year drags on.
